Ugh… so I have about 5 post ideas I wanted to do to kick off the new year and as you can see I have done one. We are in the middle of fixing up our house to put it on the market so our house looks like a tornado ripped through it and I feel like I have zero free time! Chaos everywhere!
A few days ago I got an email from ModCloth about a design your own fabric contest! So while I have been cleaning and prepping for the painting and pulling up carpeting Matt has been doing I have been brainstorming. You can participate too, how cool would it be to see a dress made out of a fabric you designed (not that I could fit in said dress at any point in 2014, I blame baby)!
So here are all the details, if you have a brilliant idea but no desire to participate feel free to share it with yours truly!
ModCloth Make The Cut Contest: ‘Prints Charming’ Have you always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer? Well now that dream can come true! The ModCloth Make The Cut program is a recurring design contest that invites the ModCloth Community to design garments, graphics, or fabric prints. Its main purpose is to further their mission of democratizing fashion by producing clothing designed by community members. YOU can become a designer at ModCloth!
How does the contest work? Entrants will design a new print for a private label dress silhouette that is already being produced! Contestants have two weeks to submit designs. After the submission period, the ModCloth Creative Team will narrow down the submissions to 20, which will be sent to the guest judge, Amanda Needham, Costume Designer for Portlandia. After Amanda has chosen the 10 finalists, they will be posted on the Be The Buyer page for voting. There will be a week for the Community to vote, then ModCloth will contact the winner and update the contest announcement with the big news!
• Contest is Live Now!
• End of Submission Period: Friday 02/14/14
• Launch voting on Be The Buyer: Monday 03/03/14
• End voting on Be The Buyer: Monday 03/10/14
• Winner announced on ModCloth Blog (winner will be contacted personally): Wednesday 3/12/14
Send your entry in now and good luck!

A few months ago I was approached about being the keynote speaker at the St. Louis Arthritis Foundation Silver Ball. The Silver Ball is an annual event to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. This was the 33rd year for the ball and unbeknownst to the committee who picked me I spoke at the ball exactly 20 years ago! It was a fun little coincidence that actually helped me write my speech.
This past Saturday was the event and I am pretty relieved it is over but I am also really glad I was able to help the Arthritis Foundation with their fundraising!
This has been a weird week. Some changes at work have me thinking about that pesky Masters degree I started years ago… I have it on my 30 before 30 list which means I have to finish up before August because the fall semester extends past my 30th birthday. Time to buckle down! So with that mindset I found this secret fitting:
In my case it isn’t thinking I’m not smart enough that is holding me back it is just pure procrastination and laziness. I just need to suck it up and finish!
What things in life have you been dragging your feet on?
Is a new camera on your Christmas list? I was given a DSLR for my birthday by my awesome husband and quickly discovered that camera bags are boring and ugly! Since this camera was a small investment I can’t just toss it in any purse like I did with my previous point and shoot. For our trip I picked out a camera bag that was gender neutral knowing Matt would be carrying it a lot, however for day-to-day now that we are back I want a cute bag not a boring black one!
I did some internet research and lo and behold pretty camera bags do exist! Now I just have to decide which one is going on my Christmas list! Check out these great shops for some cute camera bags and accessories!
This shop had a bunch that I loved. I especially love that they offered lots of different color options!
Kelly Moore More fun colors and they have purple… sign me up!
